Bryce 5 for free

If you've ever wanted to try out the 3d rendering engine Bryce, DAZ is offering free downloads of Bryce 5 if you register on their site. Sure it's a few versions old, but hey, it's free.

For Tommy

I went for the daylight version because the colors were easier to choose atm (bright blues is a much more limited palette than deep purple, deep blue, rose, orange and yellow).
The idea is that the skyline is a repeating background, and so are the power poles, but they'll repeat at different distances so it doesn't feel too repetitious.
Also, the birds really suck right now, I'll make a better version if you like this layout so far.
I find myself inordinately fond of right-hand side menus despite the fact that this is probably bad UI (English reads left to right) so if you want to switch that to the left, that's a-okay.
On a semi-related note:
All DA! updates will now be posted here.

iPod shrinks some more

I'm starting to wonder if Apple is shooting itself in the foot by naming its newest, smallest iPod the iPod Nano as a replacement to their popular iPod Mini. I mean, what's smaller than nano? Micro is larger than nano... hmmm, femto?
That lead to this poster concept: Warning: big picture )

Memoirs of a Geisha: Poster & Wallpaper

My second entry for that Design a movie poster contest I mentioned previously. Thanks to [info]wtf for pointing out in her LJ that Sony Pictures was going to release it. I wanted to make a Murderball poster, but couldn't find any hi-res pics, so that came quite in handy.
Basically, I found a stock photograph of a geisha's back, redrew it to look stylized and painted, and flattened the image into 3 colors.
Yes, PotO posters were an inspiration for it.

Oh, and for Tigris:

Do something, Gromit... DO SOMETHING!

There was a contest I entered, with the premise of designing a movie poster for an up-and-coming release. Me, I chose Wallace and Gromit's upcoming feature-length animation, The Curse of the WereRabbit. I just love Wallace and Gromit to bits. I even have a Gromit stuffed toy. I figured if he could understand Physics for Dogs and manage to fix all the broken inventions Wallace leaves in his wake, he would be an excellent good-luck plushie for all my exams.
For the poster, I basically blended two ideas from the movie site - the original movie poster ("Master. Mind.") and the campy 70's comic book styled wallpaper in the downloads section. I redrew the dynamic duo to fit the comic book style, and then had fun with Blambot fonts and color half-toning to give it that comic-book feel.
There's 2 versions: the original movie-poster size version, and a desktop wallpaper version.
