Trimming the Tree

Today, I helped my dad trim the tree.
The peach tree.
He figured he had some time this afternoon and attacked the peach tree with pruning shears and a pruning saw, complaining that if the tree grew any taller he wouldn't get a net over it. I just helped him place the ladder and pick up the branches he snipped off. He also gave me tips on how to trim fruit trees so they give you lots of fruit (pruning the new growth encourages yet more new growth, which is good because fruit only appears on new growth branches. On the other hand, sometimes you just gotta hack off ends of old branches or they'll break from the weight of the fruit. However, his attempt to duct-tape one key branch back together has proven yet again that DUCT TAPE FIXES EVERYTHING because this is perhaps the fifth or sixth year since the breakage and that branch has a wealth of new growth.)
Also, I got yet more yummy tea, a fuzzy warm sweater, and a jump drive. Technically it's an mp3 player, but I really need the jump drive more as I have managed to loose my last one.

Warm Winter Wishes

Happy Holidays, folks! I also made it into some Cafepress greeting cards and postcards.
Can you guess what movie I just saw?
Hint: it starts with 'M' )
This just reminded me of a penguin incident that happened several years ago at UCLA. Charles and Eileen had come over to visit me (and wasted a crapload of quarters in the parking meters :() and we were going down Bruin Walk when someone handed me a postcard to some party or other. I didn't really care about it, but I mentioned there was a penguin on it, and Eileen instantly wanted it. It was quite amusing.
