SFIAAFF:Finishing the Game

So yesterday we went to catch Finishing the Game on opening night of the SF International Asian American Film Festival. My brother got us into the cocktail reception/pre-party, which was pretty cool, and I got to very briefly meet Roger Fan and Sung Kang (although I'd met Sung even more briefly several years ago while I was still at UCLA.) Amusingly, Sung is apparently picking up running and is using my marathon-prone dad as inspiration (although he's not yet crazy enough to run a marathon himself.) We also ran into one of my brother's housemates who was wearing a Bruce Lee yellow jumpsuit. He told me he wants to work at Google as one of the parking attendants, since all they have to do is check ID badges and eat free lunches, and also berated me for not having my brother over for lunch yet.
Getting into the cocktail reception apparently meant you were a VIP because the little wristband they gave us for that got us into the reserved seating section of the theater. Sweet.
Anyway, since it was opening night for the Festival and it was the Festival's silver anniversary there was quite a bit of preshow introductions by members of CAAM, the festival sponsors, etc. Yul Kwon was there as emcee, and he was awesome too.
Anyhow, then we saw the movie. I've seen it before when my brother was working on it (and giving us live commentary and asking us for our impressions) but it was even better to see the finished work in a theater with an appreciative crowd. Plus, it has a soundtrack now! Although at this point I know what to expect, it's still a fun movie to watch.
Afterwards there was Q&A with Lin, and a bunch of the cast and crew went onto the stage too. (Including Hammer.) I think the most intriguing comment during the Q&A session was from Mousa Kraish (Raja) who remarked he was just glad he got to play a character who didn't have a bomb strapped to his back. I mean, speaking of Hollywood racial stereotypes.
Afterwards it was getting really late, so we skipped out on the gala reception and just got dinner and went home.
