  • 18:17 @para_maiba He does seem a bit Bale-ish, doesn't he? #
  • 19:23 @para_maiba Yup, watching it now. Hope they manage to keep up with that surreal atmosphere. #
  • 19:24 Ah, good old Rover. Still bouncing along your merry way. I'm so glad they didn't try to make him some weird CG effect. #
  • 00:25 Ok, new Prisoner remake is pretty cool so far (3 eps in). Though Jim Caviezel just can't glower like Patrick Macgoohan. bit.ly/ZyTat #

a high end production

We spent the morning making a movie for Magali's French Gender Studies class! In it I played a French girl lmao, it was fun but I had to walk in heels on grass which is the worst. Magali wants to call the film Romance Mauvais to get some youtube hits.

Now heading off to la FNAC to find a card reader and maybe to the Marmottan, eugh it is so wet and windy outside idk whether I'll really make it anywhere. I want to curl up by the heater and look out at the International Quad and the attic turrets and finish writing about Lavinia Perregia, Gaspard Arneri, and the Mystery of the Stolen Bicycle.

districts white people like

Today I dragged Magali all over the first Arrondisement and took a crapillion photos. My old, overpriced, overclassed stomping grounds, which I still know almost like the back of my hand! We had chocolate at Angelina's, made a pilgrimage to Colette, and ran about Printemps like disgusting tourists -- at least I did; Magali just shook her head and taught me to roll my eyes like a French girl so that I could blend in better. Later in the day, a real French girl asked me for directions, which was simultaneously validating and embarrassing. I was all, Lmao super sorry but I do not even know where the fuck I am right now. Also everyone keeps asking to use my lighter. In French, this translates to, Do you have the fire?

Yes I have the fire

I also walked all over the city because my Metro carnet is already all but used up and I felt I should economize. Got yelled at again, this time by bicycle police who were raiding a Serbian grocery just as I was trying to buy an apple and a soda. The shop owner was surprisingly kind despite the circumstances, and gave me directions.

So that no one would bother me I had on my headphones. The Phenomenal Handclap Band. They are solid and you can not walk to them without swaggering a little

So my camera just died and I forgot my charger in SoCal so I have to get a reader at the horrible FNAC tomorrow :C and make do with my iPhone sob sobbbbbbb have some phone pictures

The bar in bottom right photo was called OPEN BAR and painted with rainbows

  • 00:06 EEE OMG SWEENEY TODD. They did a remarkable job of recreating the OBC/1982 tour sets on a small stage. They had the chair. THE CHAIR! #
  • 00:11 Audie Gemora as Sweeney had a bit of a Depp vibe in Act 1, but in Act 2 his resemblance to George Hearn was scarily uncanny. #
  • 00:16 Main problem was the crappy sound system. Actually, main problem was restraining myself from singing along to all the songs. Such a geek. #
  • 00:16 I shouldn't post long drawn-out geekfests over Twitter, this isn't the medium for it. #

I don't know if it would do any good, but it's worth a try. Dammit, I want to see this in a theater someday.

EDIT: For the zip code, try 20004. Thanks and sorry for the trouble! >_

making magali fail every class

Today we went to the Ciel de Paris (SKY OF PARIS) for brunch, and the view was astounding even if the food was kind of what my grandmother would make. But even so in a good way; [info]magaliiiii and I talked about growing up in Antibes and the Moscow countryside, respectively. I still know how to pick mushrooms! Wow.

Then we went to le FNAC (THE FNAC) which is, as ever, a hateful place where nobody wants to use their computer to find Les Douze Royaumes (THE TWELVE KINGDOMS) even as they summon the gall to apologize for their incompetence. I did however use my own eyes find tomes 9 and 10 of Mushishi Version Francaise (MUSHISHI FRENCH VERSION), all the way in a corner marked MANGA so that nobody ever goes there by mistake.

Then we fell asleep because we are lazy idk I guess I should go look at monuments at night now, like the MacDo at the Champs-Elysees

[info]magaliiiii relayed a joke by a comedian she recently saw, about the difference between the ways French and American women shop for clothes. American women go in giggling and are all, What do the numbers mean? Do you have a larger size in this? Have a good day! French women just pick out what they want, go into the dressing room, try it on, throw everything on the floor, and leave.

Tomorrow we are going Angelino's for hot chocolate, then hitting us up some Musees Picasso and Rodin. MAGALI HAS NEVER BEEN TO THE RODIN MUSEUM but she is yet young. Will also hang around the Madeleine in the 1er, maybe go to Colette, and to the cafe atop Printemps! It will be a day for comfortable shoes because today I wore heels and they killed my feet rarrrrr. I feel shamefully counter-Francaise. When I shop for clothes I must make sure to leave my dressing room looking like a bomb went off

and here are some more places I want to see!!!!! )

More doujinshi!

I got three more doujinshi today, and spent an hour with a big sappy grin on my face. XD By coincidence, all three of them happen to have mid-timeskip Simon/Nia, so I couldn't be happier. ♥

a moveable beast

Two hours in Paris and I have already gotten yelled at by the housekeeper of the Cite Internationale Etats Unis (she turned out to be ok though) and tripped over my suitcase at the RER station. I am very tired! I am going to take a nap while I wait for Magali to get out of class ♥ Soon we are going to get Vietnamese food. Then I will stay up all night working because I will be under the impression that it is the afternoon.

I started Adventures of Kavalier and Clay on the plane. A book I am always starting on long flights. I heard it is pretty gay though. Is this true????? Seems like it should be true. The beginning portion about Prague in 1939 always makes me cry not joking

In the subway today I found a French gamer magazine and read their review of Assassin's Creed 2 and it made me think of [info]halcyonjazz.

  • 18:09:05: Anyway, the movie was awesome. Far better than the Eureka Seven movie. I think I enjoyed it more than anything from Eva I've seen before.
  • 18:10:45: Well, I've only seen bits and pieces of the TV series, manga, and movies. But I never really enjoyed them before like this.
  • 18:14:10: Shinji really did go Tengen Toppa, heh. And Mari was a fun, badass character, though also really random. Rei saying "poka poka" was cute.
  • 18:16:30: Also, subtitles were distracting because half the time, they were wrong. But I guess a camrip must be really hard to fansub.
  • 18:21:25: I liked how theatrical it felt. You know that feeling you get at the end of a good movie, as you're watching the credits? I got that.
  • 18:21:54: Somehow only makes me even more excited for Lagann-hen.

Hm.

So I just got an email about this: http://www.alltern8.com/blogger/blog_intro.asp

On one hand: It pays money. For writing about things I'm interested in. Which I already do time to time. Seems pretty easy. Sounds like a good idea. Almost too good.

I'm skeptical. Has anyone ever heard of this site? I sure haven't. I did some quick research and couldn't find any horror stories, but... Should I stay away?

[info]idprismindigo

not long past,

im not sure where (if here), but i said to myself that i wish i could want to possess someone so thoroughly as a character in a book i was reading.

ive been forced to think lately because of the things ive experienced in the past and the things i see around me. these questions ive asked and answered a hundred times, but they will always come back.

i call myself selfish, but others might see me differently. what matters when the dust has settled, though, is what those i love think of me.

if i can live with myself for years on end despite the way i feel about myself, i can live yet more feeling that way or better. always its the opinion of someone i desire that will drive me. and intensely. i could say i dont understand why that is, but i dont know if its even possible to understand that.

the final words in my head so many times, for so many people that have come and gone from my life, are 'it makes them happy' or 'its best for them'. eventually, i am forced to conquer my selfish self just long enough to harden my heart to the words or opinions of those people - to keep the intensity constantly within from overwhelming me time and time again in their presence.

objectively, externally, i say 'a little pain never hurt anybody'. i say.... that things will be ok. i know i can conquer myself for short spans, and in those spans, i find the not so much strength to move on, but perhaps lack of will to remain static.

---

and to top off this hypocritical post, never give up, never surrender...

and i mentioned a theme song a while ago. i wonder if it will ever change.

forgive any minor mistakes, i dont have the insert in front of me and this is the only pop song ive ever mostly memorized (yeah, theres only room for one)

HD Comic Post: "When Draco Met Harry (A Letter From the Jungle)" (G)

Please Note: This comic was originally posted in the 2009 Art Fest over at [info]hd_fanart. The post below is the finalized version.

The Original Prompt: #65 submitted by [info]alaana_fair

Time-period or theme: H/D in the role of Tarzan/Jane (I don't have a preference who plays the role of Tarzan and who plays the role of Jane.) :-D
Place: Outside - jungle-like setting
Emotion: Protectiveness, fondness, and/or affection
Object: I would love it if "Tarzan" was in a loin-cloth, but feel free to do it however you want!
Action: A bit of hair tugging would be fun.
Mood: I'm envisioning humorous or teasing - but feel free to go where ever the prompt takes you, as long as it's not angsty.

And onward to the comic!

_______________

Artist: [info]red_rahl
Title: When Draco Met Harry (A Letter From the Jungle)
Pairng/Characters: H/D (with guest appearances from Snape, Crabbe and Goyle, Theodore Nott, jungle inhabitants, and the Malfoys).
Rating: G (Shocking, I know)
Warnings: AU, where loin clothes abound.
Drawn for: [info]hd_fanart's Art Fest 2009
Disclaimer: This story/artwork is based on characters and situations created and owned by JK Rowling, various publishers. No money is being made and no copyright or trademark infringement is intended.
Media: Digital, Photoshop CS2
Notes: First off, I want to express my deepest graditude and appreciate to the mods (especially [info]alanna_fair) for putting up with my tardy butt during the fest.
-This prompt was deceptively simple and dovetailed with something that I've wanted to do for a really long time. However, trying to execute a story, well, one that I could live with, has taken me an excruiatingly long time to settle on. *twitches*
- I am still of the sentiment of "damn you, stupid backstory that doesn't even show up much here, damn you" but I swear that I will someday set the backstory (and afterstory) down. It was a lot of fun to come up with ways to incorporate all the different pieces of Burrough's Tarzan and Harry Potter together.
- I also relied heavily on Disney's Tarzan for my visualization of Tarzan!Harry and if you ever get the chance (and you really like the movie as well), you should get this book.

Final Warnings: Large picture files ahead! And feel free to e-mail me for a transcript of Draco's letter if anyone has trouble reading his handwriting!

The Frozen North.

So I was up at Newcastle this weekend for a "Newcastle Meet-up" which turned out to be me, my NOTT'INHAM BRO Henry (Bowler), Henry P, Lauren, Loli and Taru XD Apparently everyone else bailed.

I arrived too early to check-in to the hotel so I met up with them and went to 'spoons nearby for some lunch. Here, we passed the time by chatting about random crap (at one point, this became literal) while Henry P made up some pretty slick lyrics for their planned Dissidia cosplay skit using the song Tribute by Jack Black XD

After I got all checked in, we sort of pottered towards Monument metro station while visiting Travelling Man comic shop along the way. We then dispersed to get ready for going out later. I went back to the hotel and got changed, met up at Henry P's place where Bowler and I watched him play through some particularly old (but noteworthy) RPGs. I think that was the first time I'd ever seen the original Wild Arms in action, despite having played and loved the 3rd one XD Eventually everyone arrived and we sat around and drank booze while trying to decide where to go out - "...right, so, PACIFIC"

In the end we only just had enough time for one drink at Pacific, due to the fact we left so late XD This was about midnight or something, and I think they kicked out at... 1? I can't really remember. We went to another place called Sam Jacks anyway, and stayed there till about 3, I think. I may be wrong about the times we left/entered places. However, I am quite sure that I did not get to sleep till 5am! XD

Checkout at the hotel was 11am 8D Met up with Lauren for lunch at about half 1. We went to Wagamamas and then pottered around town for a bit. Headed to the Hancock museum where I got to bore her to death with my constant biology/palaeontology geekery. Then hung out at Quayside. Good times!

This did mean, though, that I didn't get back home till gone 11pm though, by which time I was so very, very tired XD I then had work on Monday which was shit too.

The road that I travelled to/from Newcastle is slightly scary. It's a 2-lane motorway and everyone goes at least 90-100mph on it. I'm so used to travelling on the M1, where 90mph is considered to be approaching excessive, and then on the A1 I had to go 100mph just to keep up with traffic XD This did mean that I got there in just over 2 hours though...

Also, on the way back, I almost hit an owl! I was coming off the slip-road and heading into a service station for petrol when a white blob sailed across the path in front of my car. At least, I'm somewhat sure it was an owl. It was a bit big for a regular bird, and the way I saw it fly wasn't at all like a regular bird's. It was pretty white too. Good job I didn't actually hit it; knowing my luck it would've been an endangered species or something 8D

But, yes! Fun tiems. Count me in for the next one =P
