So I was up at Newcastle this weekend for a "Newcastle Meet-up" which turned out to be me,
my NOTT'INHAM BRO Henry (Bowler), Henry P, Lauren, Loli and Taru XD Apparently everyone else bailed.
I arrived too early to check-in to the hotel so I met up with them and went to 'spoons nearby for some lunch. Here, we passed the time by chatting about random crap (at one point, this became literal) while Henry P made up some pretty slick lyrics for their planned Dissidia cosplay skit using the song Tribute by Jack Black XD
After I got all checked in, we sort of pottered towards Monument metro station while visiting Travelling Man comic shop along the way. We then dispersed to get ready for going out later. I went back to the hotel and got changed, met up at Henry P's place where Bowler and I watched him play through some particularly old (but noteworthy) RPGs. I think that was the first time I'd ever seen the original
Wild Arms in action, despite having played and loved the 3rd one XD Eventually everyone arrived and we sat around and drank booze while trying to decide where to go out - "...right, so, PACIFIC"
In the end we only just had enough time for one drink at Pacific, due to the fact we left so late XD This was about midnight or something, and I think they kicked out at... 1? I can't really remember. We went to another place called Sam Jacks anyway, and stayed there till about 3, I think. I may be wrong about the times we left/entered places. However, I am quite sure that I did not get to sleep till 5am! XD
Checkout at the hotel was 11am 8D Met up with Lauren for lunch at about half 1. We went to Wagamamas and then pottered around town for a bit. Headed to the Hancock museum where I got to bore her to death with my constant biology/palaeontology geekery. Then hung out at Quayside. Good times!
This did mean, though, that I didn't get back home till gone 11pm though, by which time I was so very, very tired XD I then had work on Monday which was shit too.
The road that I travelled to/from Newcastle is slightly scary. It's a 2-lane motorway and everyone goes at least 90-100mph on it. I'm so used to travelling on the M1, where 90mph is considered to be approaching excessive, and then on the A1 I had to go 100mph just to keep up with traffic XD This did mean that I got there in just over 2 hours though...
Also, on the way back, I almost hit an owl! I was coming off the slip-road and heading into a service station for petrol when a white blob sailed across the path in front of my car. At least, I'm somewhat sure it was an owl. It was a bit big for a regular bird, and the way I saw it fly wasn't at all like a regular bird's. It was pretty white too. Good job I didn't actually hit it; knowing my luck it would've been an endangered species or something 8D
But, yes! Fun tiems. Count me in for the next one =P
